Gori: Cuddly Carnage Preview – Murder Kitty on a Hoverboard

Gori: Cuddly Carnage

When you think of action-adventure games with cute animals as the main character, what games do you think of? At first thought, we think of Rachet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Banjo Kazooi, KAO the Kangaroo, Crash Bandicoot, Sonic, and Spyro.

If you were a fan of the 2000s PlayStation action adventure golden era then we have a game for you. At PAX East 2023, we met with Wired Productions to preview their upcoming gaming, Gori: Cuddly Carnage. If you want a cat with a rad attitude, then you are just in luck. Because in this game, that rad cat gets to slice up evil unicorns.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is an action-adventure game set in a cyberpunk-like world. The game is currently being developed by Angry Demon Studio for PC and consoles. Make sure to wishlist it now before you forget. Now let’s dive into what the game is and our thoughts on the demo.

Gori Cuddly Carnage Cat

Murder Kitty on a Hoverboard?

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is the story of a cat and its hoverboard, Frank. Before going too far in the game, we will state that the dialog is a bit raunchy and is not for children. This becomes abundantly clear when the board said it needs to get checked based on its encounter with an RC Car.

Despite its adult humor, the game itself is rather comedic. Humanity has expired and the cat seems to be next. In the beginning, there is a hull breach, and rather than going down with the ship, Gori decides to abandon it and ride his way down to the planet.

Upon arriving on the planet, the player learns that the planet is not safe when a unicorn gets turned into a Slicey-corn. The game’s core gameplay mechanics revolve around doing tricks on the board while slicing up enemies.

Like other hack-and-slash games, killing the enemies with combos and in a timely manner will earn the player a higher score. While Gori tries to survive, he is also looking for a ship to get off the crazy planet.

Gori Impressions

Before playing Gori: Cuddly Carnage, I thought the developers were just trying to cash in on the success of Stray. Both games take place in a post-apocalyptic dystopian world where humans are no longer alive. Rather than running away to survive, Gori slices, dices, and shreds those that are in his way.

Both the combat and the skating were rather polished in the demo. In fact, the only issue we had while playing through it was the controller kept disconnecting. Even though I hate jumping puzzles, the platforming in the game was rather easy to understand and actually enjoyable.

The game’s art design sucked us in between the colorful cyberpunk work or the murderous unicorns wanting to slice up our soft furry body. Additionally, the game’s music kept us pumped up and made us get into the rhythm of taking the corns out.

In fact, the music was reminiscent of the 90s and 2000s platformers making it even more enjoyable. The game’s controls were a great blend of hack-and-slash games mixed with the most beloved Skate Board game of all time, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.

If you want a fun action-packed platforming game with a murderous kitten and a fowl mouth skateboard look no further than Gori: Cuddly Carnage. After playing the demo, we have definitely added it to our wishlist and can’t wait until it comes out.

Gori is launching sometime later in 2023 across PC (via Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
