Despite getting Xbox Achievements listed back in January, we have yet to see an announcement for the rumored Goldeneye 007 remake. Another rumor suggests it has been quietly put on hold.
Though the game is rumored to be close to finished at this point, a new rumor suggests the war in Ukraine has left the game in limbo. Microsoft reportedly feels that it is not an appropriate time to release the title.
“Goldeneye is still in limbo because of the war. 1 v 100’s team lead left Microsoft. I don’t know what that means for the game,” Giant Bomb writer Jeff Grubb said.
The original Goldeneye movie was the first in the series to be released after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. As such, the film and the game adaptations feature heavy Russian / Soviet themes, which could offend some if released while the Ukraine war is ongoing.
The Goldeneye 007 remake is not the only game that has been affected by Russia’s invasion of its neighbor to the west., numerous other games have been delayed or experienced development issues.
Nintendo’s remaster for Advance Wars has also been delayed indefinitely due to the war, as well as S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chornobyl, which got delayed because its studio is based in Ukraine and are focusing on their well-being and safety.
