Gods Will Be Watching is a unique project by Deconstructeam, an indie developer from Valencia, Spain. The prototype for the game was created in two days during the Ludum Dare 26 game jam. It has since been on indiegogo, amassing a little over 20,000 euros, well over their original goal of 8000 euros.
The original game was developed in less than 72 hours with minimalism as a theme, it had a single stage with point’n’click mechanics, creating a very bleak survivor simulator. In the core game you have to manage everyone’s hunger and overall well being while you’re stranded on a foreign planet, preventing them from going crazy or contracting a deadly virus.
Now, Deconstructeam is set to remake their original prototype with a bigger and better version, giving you a much more rewarding experience. Instead of being limited to one area that has multiple scenarios, you’ll have lots of areas and many more potential scenarios to overcome, like managing a hostage situation.
One of the key themes in Gods Will Be Watching is morality, like choosing whether someone will live or die in various situations. The aforementioned hostage situation is a great example, killing a hostage will help keep the other hostages in line, but it could easily upset one of your crew members.
Deconstructeam is promising a lot more gameplay with their fully realized version of the game, complete with six levels that are each entirely unique and filled with tough challenges and difficult decisions, and a brand new empathy system, further embracing the morality throughout the game.
