Nyu Media has confirmed to Niche Gamer some wonderful news – they’re bringing ASTRO PORT’s glorious 1970s mecha anime-inspired sidescrolling shooter, Supercharge Robot VULKAISER, to PC and Linux, via Steam.
If this sort of thing gets you hot and bothered (like it does with me), you’ll be happy to know the game is hitting Steam next month. Featured above, you can view the game’s teaser trailer, in all of its hilariously corny 70s mecha anime brilliance.
ASTRO PORT is known for 2D shmups like Satazius and Gigantic Army, both of which featured a darker aesthetic. Now, the developer has gone full-steam towards a campy, bright, and explosion-filled take on mecha anime.
The game itself is set in the year 1977, where planet Earth has become the new target of the Gogoh Army. To stop the invasion, you have to pilot the giant robot VULKAISER.
In this regard, VULKAISER borrows some aspects from popular sentai TV shows, enabling you to fight with your VulFighter teammates and combine together to make the Drill KAISER, the Needle KAISER, the Rocket KAISER, and finally the Thunder KAISER.
The game features six levels to complete across four levels of difficulty. As with their previous Steam releases, Nyu Media is including 34 achievements, and online leaderboards.
Supercharge Robot VULKAISER is launching on June 4th, via Steam. The game will cost $4.99, and for now, you can bookmark the game’s Steam page here.
