Japanese developer SUCCESS Corporation has announced GHOST TRAVELER: Adventures in Edo, a time-traveling murder-mystery game.
GHOST TRAVELER: Adventures in Edo is set to launch in 2025 for PC (via Steam) and Switch, with support for Japanese, English, and Chinese languages.
Here’s a rundown on the game, plus its reveal trailer:
A boy travels back in time to Edo period Japan and gets caught up in a bizarre murder. Can he solve the mystery of the murder that unfolds in the Yoshiwara brothel and return to the present day?
The protagonist (player) is a 17-year-old boy named Amber, who lives in modern Japan. One day, he gets caught up in a supernatural event in Shibuya and loses consciousness. When he awoke, he found himself in a space that resembled a Japanese period drama.
He was informed by a “god” that he was in the Yoshiwara brothel in Edo, the capital of Japan in the 19th century, and that he had died and become only a soul, and had traveled back in time to the Edo period. Unsure of the reason for his arrival in this time period and the way to attain Buddhahood, Amber wanders around Yoshiwara in search of clues to explain the “mystery”.
Eventually he stumbles upon the murder of a courtesan and takes on the role of “detective” to solve the murder, only to encounter a number of bizarre murders…
