Ghost Of Tsushima: Director’s Cut Rated by ESRB; Coming to PlayStation 4 and 5

Ghost Of Tsushima: Director's Cut

An ESRB rating for Ghost Of Tsushima: Director’s Cut has appeared, revealing the game ahead of any official announcement.

As noticed by Nibellion (a Twitter account dedicated to gaming news), the game has an M for Mature rating via the ESRB, and will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The use of Director’s Cut would suggest additional content, though this may merely be a “complete edition,” and a reference to the game’s classic Japanese samurai movie screen filter.

The original game’s story is based on the real life Japanese island of Tsushima, which was under invasion from Mongol invaders in the late 13th century. Samurai Jin Sakai must choose to continue to follow the way of the Samurai and tackle the invaders head on and against impossible odds, or use the methods of the ninja to use stealth and deception.

The game was certainly popular, selling out in some Japanese stores at launch, and selling 2.4 million units globally in the first three days. This made it the fastest-selling first-party original IP PlayStation 4 title. The game would later sell over 5 million copies (as of November 2020), and even high praise from Sega chief creative officer Toshihiro Nagoshi (also general director of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio).

“We definitely lost to them. I think it’s a game that definitely should have been made by Japanese people, but I heard they did a monstrous job collecting data and everything,” Nagoshi stated. “It’s the kind of work made by non-Japanese people that makes you feel they’re even more Japanese than us.”

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions previously announced a movie adaption of Ghost of Tsushima by John Wick director Chad Stahelski. This would suggest the release dates of both game and film will be around the same time (each promoting the other).

You can find the full rundown on the original game (via PlayStation) below.

A STORM IS COMING

In the late 13th century, the Mongol empire has laid waste to entire nations along their campaign to conquer the East. Tsushima Island is all that stands between mainland Japan and a massive Mongol invasion fleet led by the ruthless and cunning general, Khotun Khan. As the island burns in the wake of the first wave of the Mongol assault, samurai warrior Jin Sakai stands as one of the last surviving members of his clan. He is resolved to do whatever it takes, at any cost, to protect his people and reclaim his home. He must set aside the traditions that have shaped him as a warrior to forge a new path, the path of the Ghost, and wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima.

IN WAR-TORN TSUSHIMA, ANCIENT BEAUTY ENDURES

Find peace in the quiet moments of natural harmony and solace in the moments you’ll share with the people you help along the way.

THE RISE OF THE GHOST

Jin was raised and trained in the ways of the samurai. When the Mongols handily defeat the samurai forces, Jin’s world is shattered. He is faced with the most difficult decision of his life: honor the tradition and customs of his samurai upbringing and maintain a fight he cannot win, or deviate from his samurai path to protect the island and its people by any means necessary.

In his quest to reclaim Tsushima, Jin must seek the guidance and support of old friends and new unlikely allies. He must break away from tradition, become a new kind of warrior, and protect what’s left of his home at all costs.

MUD, BLOOD, AND STEEL

The Mongol enemy is unpredictable and formidable in warfare and weaponry. Get the upper hand by adapting Jin’s skills and learning new tactics to defend the island and protect the people of Tsushima.

Challenge opponents head-on in close quarters with your katana for a unique immersive samurai combat experience. Master the bow to eliminate distant threats with lethal precision. Develop stealth and deception tactics to disorient and ambush enemies with surprise attacks.

An adaptive landscape and organic approach to combat makes Tsushima the perfect playground for mixing and matching skills, weapons, and tactics to find the perfect combat blend for your play style. As Jin’s story unfolds, versatility and creativity will become your greatest weapons.
