Yuji Naka, the father of Sonic the Hedgehog, has been working on a fun new game called Rodea the Sky Soldier for quite some time now with his new studio, Prope.
The game was originally announced back in 2011 for the 3DS and Wii, but it seemed to have some development and publishing issues with Kadokawa Games, and it still hasn’t been released.
To get an idea of what the game is all about, you can watch the above trailer. The TL;DR explanation for Rodea the Sky Soldier is that it’s essentially NiGHTS but with more direct combat, where you directly attack various flying baddies.
Thankfully, this week’s Famitsu magazine has confirmed that, yes, the game is finally coming next year. (With a scan provided via Game Jouhou)
It’s still not quite clear what the hell exactly happened, as it seemed to be far along in development, and yet Kadokawa Games continually delayed publishing the game. Now it’s set to come to 3DS and Wii U.
A western release date hasn’t been confirmed, but we’ll keep you guys posted.
