Courtesy of IGN comes news out of Germany which states that after 7 years, Bethesda’s Fallout 3 is no longer banned from being sold.

While it’s common for the German government to block the sale of games that are excessively violent or contain Nazi imagery, Fallout 3 was perhaps one of the tamer titles they’ve banned. The Fallout games, especially the 3rd, were rather comical in their violence and offered more in the way of critiques on the nature of humanity than just plain violence for violence’s sake.

Somewhat amusingly, a quote from the council states that, “Fallout 3 will be removed from the list because its content is no longer classified as harmful to minors from today’s perspective.” Whether that means their country now appears to resemble Fallout, or that post-apocalyptic survival games are considered good practice for living under the Merkel regime, no one has said for sure.

One interesting wrinkle in this story is that people seem to think this may point to a possible Fallout 3 HD re-release, since the game was due to be un-banned automatically after the prerequisite ten year waiting period, but was de-listed early for what is essentially a very flimsy reason. Considering that a free download of Fallout 3 was given to pre-purchasers of Fallout 4, this could seem like they are setting the stage for its reintroduction.
