Elden Ring Looks Incredible

Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin has said Elden Ring looks incredible in a new blog post, but admitted he’s more a fan of strategy games.

When talking up the recent new story trailer for the game, Martin proclaimed Elden Ring looks incredible, while admitting he mostly played strategy games ages ago.

“Now, video games are not really my thing,” Martin said in his blog. “Oh, I played a few back in the dawn of time, mainly strategy games like Railroad Tycoon, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Master of Orion.” Coming from this, it makes sense the games that involved lots of world building and management are Martin’s favorite genre.

Martin noted that Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the Souls series and head of FromSoftware, is doing “groundbreaking stuff” with his team, producing “gorgeous art” and games, but revealed his contribution on Elden Ring was actually completed years ago.

“So I did my bit, and handed off to my new friends in Japan, and they took it from there. And years passed,” Martin revealed. “Videogames are as big as movies these days (bigger, actually)… and take just as long to create.”

Elden Ring has long been known as a collaboration between FromSoftware and Martin, who provided the worldbuilding and initial writing on the game.

He reaffirmed that FromSoftware wanted him to do “a bit of worldbuilding: a deep, dark, resonant world to serve as a foundation for the game they planned to create.” Martin then teased that “as it happens, I love creating world sand writing imaginary history.”

Elden Ring was recently delayed to February 25th, 2022 across Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
