MiHoYo have released a new trailer showing off Thoma, the latest character to be added to their gacha action-RPG, Genshin Impact.
Thoma is a native of Mondstadt, that eventually made his way to the isolated island nation of Inazuma. Despite being a foreigner, Thoma managed to become close friends with Kamisato Ayaka, and now serves as her retainer.
Though he is officially listed as a housekeeper and servant; behind the scenes he is a notorious fixer that handles problems that the Kamisato Clan and Yashiro Commission need solved as discreetly as possible.
Thoma first appeared as a major character in the Inazuma story arch that launched with Genshin Impact‘s 2.0 update. He is now available as a 4-star character in the Moment of Bloom limited time banner, which showcases the return of the popular 5-star character Hu Tao [1, 2], as well as the 4-star characters Diona and Sayu. He will be added to the permanent banner in a future update.
Thoma is a support-focused pyro polearm user. His Elemental Skill deals pyro AoE damage before applying a Blazing Barrier. This shield protects the party, absorbing damage based on Thoma’s max HP. His Elemental Burst deals AoE pyro damage, then applies a stronger version of Blazing Barrier, as well as Scorching Ooyoroi, which causes the active character’s basic attacks to explode into pyro bursts.
Many Genshin Impact characters have a passive effect while they are in your party, and Thoma is no different. As a skilled fisherman, Thoma provides players with a chance to reel in double the catch while fishing in Inazuma. You can see Thoma’s abilities in action in the trailer below.
Genshin Impact is available and free-to-play on Windows PC (via the official website), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, and coming soon to Nintendo Switch. In case you missed it, you can find our review here (we recommend it!)
