Gearbox CEO “flattered” despite Borderlands movie flopping at box office

Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software, is not deterred from the massive failure the movie adaptation of Borderlands is having after its premiere.

Eli Roth’s Borderlands adaptation only netted $7 million in revenue despite its huge $115 million budget and $30 million for distribution and marketing (via Variety). Film critics also savaged the film with the overwhelming response being negative.

Pitchford, however, sees a silver lining the failure of the Borderlands movie, according to his X account. He was also the executive producer for the film adaptation.

“So what you’re saying is: You like what my friends and I do with our Borderlands video games even more than you like what some of the biggest and best cast and crew of film makers on the planet have done,” Pitchford said. “I’m super flattered! We’re working extra hard four you on what’s next.”

It is unknown if he was referring to a fourth Borderlands game, in which Pitchford previously said was in development.
