GaymerX was started as a convention by the guys and gals over at GaymerConnect, a community of LGBTQ gamers and friends of LGBTQ gamers, to help create a venue for people of all types of lifestyles and backgrounds to meet up and discuss the games they’re into.

Now, the people from GaymerConnect are working on their first game, titled simply ROM, or Read Only Memories. In the game, you play as a young journalist in Neo-San Francisco, trying to make it in a cyberpunk world, as generally you’ve avoided high tech stuff.

The game begins with you receiving a mysterious package containing a beta prototype of the latest ROM, or Read Only Memory, which is an artificial intelligence that has replaced cell phones and all personal mobile technology. The weirdest part is that the ROM has a note attached to it, saying that a close friend of yours had to leave the country immediately.

One of the main things GaymerConnect are trying to do right is have excellent characters, dialogue, and specifically – meaningful LGBT characters. They’re not only working hard on making all of the hetero characters feel alive and unique, but they’re engaging with their community to make sure that every character, queer or not, is awesome and interesting.

The game is kickstarter funded, and despite just reaching their goal of $62,000, they still need more help to make the game everything it possibly can be. If you want to go throw your money at them, head on over to their kickstarter page – they only have about a day left!
