Garry Newman, the creator of Garry’s Mod, has confirmed his sandbox creator has broken ten million units sold.
He announced the news after the new year arrived, saying the ten millionth copy was sold “over new years.”
“Jesus christ. GMod sold its ten millionth copy over new years,” said Garry on Twitter.
Garry’s Mod began as a simple Half-Life 2 mod, however it quickly grew in popularity and it was eventually released as a standalone game in 2006. If you want an example of what can be produced with Garry’s Mod, you can look no further.
Despite the success of the game, Newman’s latest game, Rust, has been earning quite a bit more than Garry’s Mod, and it has sold three million units as of the end of last year. It’s currently in alpha development, and is available through Steam Early Access.
