SNK Playmore has announced (via NeoGAF) at their EVO 2016 panel that they’re porting Garou: Mark of the Wolves to both PlayStation 4 and PS Vita.
The news was confirmed by Sony’s Senior Director of Third Party Production & Developer Relations at SIE America, Gio Corsi. An early build of the new port is playable on the floor at EVO. The game will support cross-buy, cross-play, and online multiplayer.
Garou: Mark of the Wolves was originally released in Japanese arcades back in 1999 before getting ported to the Neo Geo, and even later, the Sega Dreamcast. It’s currently available for modern platforms like the Xbox 360 (which is backwards compatible with Xbox One) and iOS.
The company’s latest upcoming release, The King of Fighters XIV, is launching for PlayStation 4 on August 23rd in North America and on August 25th in Japan. That game’s producer has even expressed interest in making a sequel to Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

July 16, 2016 at 5:21 pmHell yes! The Last Blade 2 port was great (and uncensored) and I’m definitely getting this one as well. SNK seem to be keeping their word and really going back to their gaming roots.

July 16, 2016 at 5:24 pmThat’s awesome. A physical release would be double-plus awesome.

July 16, 2016 at 5:26 pmI highly doubt it, but I’m supporting it regardless.

July 16, 2016 at 6:02 pmI think this sums up my reaction to the news nicely (just replace KI with Garou)

July 16, 2016 at 7:46 pmHell yeah! They released it on Xbox Arcade a few years back, but I can’t fight effectively with an Xbox controller. I’m definitely picking this up on Vita.

July 16, 2016 at 7:48 pmSeriously. Seeing as PC dollars have kept the company above water these last couple years, you’d think they could show a little appreciation and talk about the PC version as well.
They’re probably afraid of pirates eating a chunk of day one sales, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see a delayed release on PC. ._.

July 16, 2016 at 7:54 pmI remember this was available on Xbox Live but I was on the fence on buying it because the multiplayer was more than likely a ghost town after it was released for some time but I think I might take the plunge and get it even though playing fighting games aren’t my forte. The incentive of getting two copies of the game for the price of one is a really nice bonus, I hope they keep this trend going.

July 16, 2016 at 8:41 pmFuck yes. I’m shit at fighting games and have a hard time enjoying them. This is the only one that has ever sat well with me. I am excited to play again.

July 16, 2016 at 9:42 pmNo, this is probably due to their Sony partnership for marketing right now, Im sure theyll announce it later.

Debuted in a bundle at that iirc, but not yet on Steam for… whatever reason, which may very well be that Sony “partnership”/moneyhat.

July 17, 2016 at 12:51 amDon’t worry about it, it’ll be out…eventually, even the previous SNK games from Metal Slug 2 through Twinkle Star Sprites did take a while for them to be released spaciously.
All we need to do is wait…

July 17, 2016 at 6:44 amYeh it’s saddening though that those scumbags promote piracy every time a SNK game get ported to Steam even when it has online. They’d rather play a illegal version on fightcade.

Would that technically be considered a port? The MVS versions of NEG GEO games had full compatibility with the AES systems. The only thing that was different was the connector. Other than that they were the exact same chips with the same data.

July 18, 2016 at 11:57 pmSadly piracy there is the better option, SNK games on PC are notorious for having garbage netcode while fightcade offers GGPO
Derp Minos
July 19, 2016 at 1:18 pmTwinkle Star Sprites has actually very decent netcode. People just want to pirate and will pretend the netcode is shit when it’s clearly fine.
Joeyjoejoejoejoe
July 19, 2016 at 8:31 pmIt’s still only decent and an exception not the rule while fightcade offers the optimal option which still makes it the preferable option.

July 20, 2016 at 5:10 amI dunno. It’s just as good if not better than fightcade. It’s just pirate trying to make excuses to not buy the game when they could get it super cheap on humble bundle multiple times.
Joeyjoejoejoejoe
July 20, 2016 at 7:21 pm“I dunno. It’s just as good if not better than fightcade.”
False all the research I did found it to run on roll back instead of the superior GGPO offered on fightcade also while lacking the options to add extra delay to compensate for laggy connections which on the steam versions rollback will not might, have freezes and skips online, any better then fightcade experience you claim is soul on your connection with the other players.
“It’s just pirate trying to make excuses to not buy the game when they could get it super cheap on humble bundle multiple times.”
Again not even, the purchasable version is based on the inferior neo geo console version and not based on the arcade so playing on fightcade on top of the GGPO hosted connection it also offers features and levels that are not in the SNK released steam version.
You’re by no means getting a better experience then just using fightcade, you’re getting a inherently worse online and an inferior version of the game.
