On March 5th, Philadelphia police Officer Robert Wilson III was tragically killed after fighting off a robbery in a local GameStop store.

We now have a report (via NBC Philadelphia) that GameStop took a visit to the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police station this week, and they dropped off a check for $50,000 for Wilson’s family.

“They really didn’t want any fanfare,” Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police President John McNesby told NBC Philadelphia. “They didn’t want any cameras. They didn’t want any crazy stuff. They just wanted to come in very quietly. They didn’t want to take away from the heroic actions of Officer Wilson.” There are also reports of GameStop planning to put out donation jars inside their stores all along the East Coast, to hopefully get more aid for Wilson’s family.

The robbery in GameStop led to a reportedly “fierce and violent” exchange of gunfire, which came after both 30-year-old Carlton Hipps and 26-year-old Ramone Williams came to the store armed. “They were both firing at him,” said Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, according to NBC Philadelphia. “He was actually being hit during the exchange of gunfire but he continued to fight, continued to shoot until the fatal wound was fired and it brought him down.”

Both Hipps and Williams are waiting to be tried on charges for Wilson’s murder.
