Game Magazine Charges Winners of Awards to Display Award Logos

publishers paying money for good reviews

Notch, the creator of Minecraft, has always been very frank in his twitter posts whether they’re pertaining to his games, or the industry in general.

This post of his regarding Minecraft’s many awards from PC Mag was no different:

So, to clarify, they were actually awarded those awards, but they must PAY MONEY to display them on their games’ advertising, and so on.

Let me get this straight – in order to let the gaming industry and community know you won one of their awards, you have to pay them a FEE in order to legally do so?

Just to be completely clear, any and all reviews or coverage that we do is completely free of any corporate shilling or astroturfing. These are all of our own opinions, and this kind of thing makes the staff at Niche Gamer disgusted.

Sound off in the comments below, whether you agree that this is completely ridiculous or justified.
