Game Informer to shut down after 33 years

Game Informer

Long-running gaming print magazine Gaming Informer has announced they will shut down after 33 years in publication.

GameStop, the parent company of the magazine, has laid off Gaming Informer’s employees and immediately ended the publication. Issue number 367, which has the cover of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, will be the final issue next month.

Founded in 1991, Game Informer in its heyday had sister publications like Game ProElectronic Gaming Monthly, and Nintendo Power. It was purchased by GameStop in 2000, alongside retail gaming competitor Funcoland.

The advent of digital games has caused a decline on Game Informer’s sales, despite GameStop’s stock squeeze, and major writers like Andy McNamara left for EA in 2020.
