Game Gear Micro Announced, Launches October 6 in Japan

Game Gear Micro

As part of Sega’s 60th Anniversary and the 30th anniversary of the Game Gear, the Game Gear Micro has just been announced (thanks Wario64!)

Developed by the same team behind the Mega Drive Mini, the Game Gear Micro comes in four color variants, Black, Blue, Yellow and Red. Each color variant also contains four classic games. They include:

Black

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Puyo Puyo Tsu
  • Out Run
  • Royal Stone (a Japan-only sequel to Crystal Warriors)

Blue

  • Sonic & Tails
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Sylvan Tail
  • Bakubaku Animal World Zookeeper Championship

Yellow

  • Shining Force Gaiden
  • Shining Force Gaiden Ⅱ: Awakening of the Evil God
  • Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict
  • Nazopuyo Aruru’s Roux

Red

  • Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible
  • Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special
  • The G.G. Shinobi

While the original Game Gear was 255mm x 113mm x 38 mm and a 3.2 inch screen, the Game Gear Micro will be approximately 80mm x 43mm x 20mm with a 1.15 inch screen.

It is hardly surprising then as a bonus for pre-ordering all four color variations, a micro version of the “Big Window” peripheral to enlarge the screen will be included.

This also carries over to the game’s special editions. Rakuten Books Limited is selling all four Game Gear Micros, pins for each game, the Big Window peripheral, and storage case for ¥ 27,255 JPY (est. $250.69 USD).

The Sega Store Limited DX Pack includes all four color variants, the Big Window peripheral, a framed case, and a mock-up of a translucent “Smoke” model, for ¥ 25,920 JPY (est. $238.41 USD).
