Mobile games have become so prevalent in Japan that even the vaunted Pokemon developer, Game Freak, is entering the mobile space. Game Freak isn’t known for much outside of Pokemon but they have created highly regarded cult classics such as 1994’s Pulseman and 2005’s Drill Dozer. Solitibia was originally released in 2013 for the 3DS eShop and is an interesting mix of solitaire and horse racing. The decision to move this to mobile was probably easy seeing as that sounds like the perfect combination for the more casual mobile audience.
What will be more interesting to some people is that Game Freak is doing this totally outside of Nintendo. Game Freak has become so synonymous with the pokemon name that a lot of people don’t realize that they are actually an independent company not owned by Nintendo and they even released a game for playstation called Click Medic in 1999 which was post Pokemon.
No release date is set, but we will keep you posted. It will also be interesting to see if Game Freak makes anymore ventures into mobile. Could this be a hint at a future mobile Pokemon title? I could see that being quite the phenomenon.
