It didn’t take long for the guys at 17-Bit to decide on bringing Galak-Z to another platform beside the already confirmed PC and Playstation 4 releases. Over on the PlayStation Blog, senior producer Raj Joshi confirmed that the sci-fi roguelike would be coming to Playstation Vita as well.
The reason for this awesome development is possibly something you would never think of – a “new wave” of other roguelikes that have already hit the handheld platform have inspired Joshi and the rest of the team. He cited Spelunky and Don’t Starve, as both of which feature that addicting roguelike progression, a randomness that is perfect for handheld play.
Joshi highlighted Spelunky as the core inspiration, however, as its success on Vita was noted:
“Spelunky is also great at giving satisfying play sessions of anywhere from three minutes to three hours. The union of the roguelike structure and the pick-up-and-play nature of a handheld resonated with us. It makes us even more excited to get Galak-Z on the go.”
The 2D sci-fi shooter will come to Playstation Vita with all of the same content as the other versions. Galak-Z is sporting an entire host of randomly generated rooms that build and iterate upon each other every time someone starts the game up. Each “room” is chock full of potential new stuff, i.e. enemies, traps, rewards, and so on.
