Stardock Entertainment has updated Galactic Civilizations III with a sizeable update that adds Steam Workshop integration, alongside other nice features.

Players who create their own ships and custom factions can now share them with other players, for free, through Steam Workshop. Stardock also made use of their in-game DIY-suite of tools by encouraging their community of testers/backers to create their own ships and factions.

Featured above, a new accolades trailer was revealed, to celebrate the game’s launch and reception across the interwebs. Stardock has also added two new difficulty levels, and new user interface improvements in the 1.1 update.

“The ability to create custom factions and design your own ships was always core to Galactic Civilizations III. Now players can easily share their creations so that each universe is unique,” said Stardock’s VP of Entertainment Derek Paxton.

“There are already over 400 factions and ships available for free download on Steam Workshop, created by Stardock or the Galactic Civilizations III community. You can download and play as Ghosts of Abbadon, who have ruined their home world and are setting out to find another, or download the terrifying Drengin World Eater ship.”

Finally, eight new multiplayer maps were added via the Map Pack DLC, alongside the aforementioned free update. The eight maps will be free to those who own the Elite Founders pack, and $4.99 for all other players.

Fans can expect maps ranging from massive 18 player areas, to smaller and tighter maps designed for two player duels – as well as the brand new Milky Way scenario. There’s also a new map editor made available in the DLC.
