Now that Valve’s handheld gaming PC is being sent out, a curious bit of news crept up – Gabe Newell personally delivered Steam Deck units, too.
The Valve Software co-founder and president got a bunch of the first Steam Deck consumer models and hand-delivered them to fans who pre-ordered.. and just so happened to live near the Valve headquarters in Washington state.
Here’s video where Gabe Newell personally delivered Steam Deck units to fans:
Some fun tidbits from the video – one recipient of Gabe’s Steam Deck appeared to be a fan’s mother, another actually thought Gabe was just a delivery guy and asked “is there anything you need me to sign?”, and Gabe seemingly handed a bunch of random guys they saw in town (they were moving out) Steam Decks.
Gabe also revealed that his first job was actually a newspaper delivery boy many moons ago, and then his next job was delivering telegrams for Western Union, joking today’s deliveries bring back his memories of being a delivery boy.
The Valve boss also chatted up one fan that is also a big Final Fantasy XIV player – while the fan mains a Dragoon, Gabe reiterated that he’s trying to level up his White Mage.. so he can keep supporting his son while doing dungeons together.
Valve’s Steam Deck is now available, and in three flavors: $399 (64GB), $529 (256GB), and $649 (512GB), over on the Steam store.
