Frontier Developments have quietly announced they’re working on a Warhammer Age of Sigmar RTS game, via a new license from Games Workshop.
The new Warhammer Age of Sigmar RTS game was buried in a new investor relations publication, where city builder and Elite Dangerous developer Frontier Developments confirmed the new game is being developed for PC and consoles.
“We are delighted to announce this licence with Games Workshop. I personally think it’s great news that two such well-established and world-class creative UK companies with global reach are collaborating on a new project, said Frontier CEO David Braben.
He added, “We look forward to working closely with the team at Games Workshop to bring the rich world of Warhammer Age of Sigmar to a wide audience through an immersive and accessible real-time strategy game on both PC and console.”
Further details are really scant, but a targeted release window is set for sometime in fiscal year 2023, which is any time before the fiscal year ending on May 31, 2023.
The game will be set in the Warhammer Age of Sigmar world from Games Workshop, a tabletop fantasy game where you fight with miniatures. This has replaced the original Warhammer Fantasy Battles in 2015, got a second edition in 2018, and is extremely popular.
Another Warhammer strategy game is being worked on by Creative Assembly, the Total War Warhammer series – which is currently on its second entry (pictured above). Due to the popularity of the franchise, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a third entry come in the near future.
We’ll keep you guys posted.
