Frederator Creating New Animated Series Based on “One of the Most World-Famous Video Games”

Remember that “super violent” animated series based on Castlevania that we reported is actually happening? It seems like we might be getting the series much sooner than we thought.

In a new episode of Fred Seibert’s (Frederator Studios) Nick Animation podcast, the creator revealed that his team at Frederator is working on a new show based “one of the most world famous video games of the last 30 years.”

“What we look for is great characters and great stories, and if we are lucky enough, because they’re a lot harder to find than you would think, we move Heaven and earth to try to make them happen,” Seibert revealed.

“We have a project now that we’re doing that needs to go unnamed based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years that we’ve had in our shop for 12 years without being able to get it started. But there were great characters and a great story, and eventually we got it going.”

There are a few things to take away from this – namely that Seibert didn’t confirm the series will be aired on Nickelodeon, and that it’s specifically focused on a world-renowned video game series that spans at least 30 years. This all coincides with creator and producer Adi Shankhar’s project, who is working with Frederator on the aforementioned Castlevania series.

Shankhar’s animated series will focus on protagonist Trevor Belmont and his exploits seen in the game Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. “I’m producing a super violent Castlevania mini-series with my homies Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde,” Shankhar said at the time. “It’s going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head.”

The main debate in the community is whether this series Seibert is teasing is the same Castlevania series, because if it is, Nickelodeon certainly won’t air it. “There will be a lot,” Shankhar said when asked how much violence and gore the series will have. The Castlevania animated series will be inspired by classic anime pieces like Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Ninja Scroll, and more.
