Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf, 15 year old winner of the Fortnite World Championships 2019, was swatted this weekend while live on Twitch. There were no fatalities or injuries during the event.

The incident took place on August 10th while streaming with other Fortnite professional players “Ghost Bizzle” and “FaZe Dubs.” In the clip (which you can view here) we hear Bugha inform his father he cannot step away from the computer, as the match is almost finished. While we cannot hear the other end of the conversation, we later hear Bugha state “I got swatted?” in disbelief. He eventually leaves his computer.

Roughly ten minutes later he returns (which you can view here), and explains the situation to his friends, simply stating “That was definitely a new one.” Considering the situation, Bugha sounds relatively calm. While his friends show shock, when one asks if he can continue playing, Bugha quickly states “Yeah I’m good.” Bugha continued his seemingly calm nature with a single tweet later that day: “kinda wild.”

“I was lucky, ’cause the one officer he [recognized me], he was in our neighborhood.”

The incident could have been far worse however. In 2017 Andrew Finch was swatted by Tyler Barriss over a $1.50 bet in Call of Duty: WWII, resulting in his death. Barriss is currently serving a 20 year prison sentence, guilty of 51 federal charges related to fake calls and threats. At the time his sentence was 10 years over the recommended sentencing guidelines.
