Former Steam Boss Jason Holtman Leaves Microsoft

PC Gamers such as myself scoffed at the news a few days ago which claimed Microsoft was recommitting themselves to the PC platform…since this wasn’t the first time they promised such a change would take place. While we all took it with a grain of salt, there was still hope that the recent hiring of former Steam boss Jason Holtman meant they were taking it seriously this time.

Well, those dreams may be dashed seeing that Holtman has now left. According to his Linkedin page, Holtman left his position at Microsoft back in January. Though Microsoft recently commented on his departure, it was a boilerplate response that said absolutely nothing.

Word from PC Gamer is that he posted a message about this on his Facebook page:

“Last week I left Microsoft and said goodbye to my friends there. Now looking around for something interesting and fun-no end of that in video games!”

This is more bad news for Microsoft, considering their new console is still struggling in a PR war with Sony’s Playstation 4, their smartphone OS is grasping for market share, they have a heavily criticized desktop OS struggling to maintain significance and troubles surrounding their CEO position.

Microsoft will have a hard time challenging Valve if their company doesn’t attain some semblance of stability soon.
