Former Capcom Devs April Fools’ 2D Fighter Playable at EVO 2017

Arika, a Japanese studio founded back in 1995 by former Capcom developers that made Street Fighter II, has announced they’re bringing their latest fighting game to this year’s EVO.

The fully-playable EVO showing of the game is to test out a new “Gougi” system within the game. The studio will only have one kiosk, however they’ll be showing off playable Street Fighter EX characters Garuda, Hokuto, and Kairi.

While the game has yet to be officially titled, the “Mystery Fighting Game” was originally shown off as an April Fools’ Day prank. Despite the curious nature of the game, it’s already being compared to Street Fighter V, with some fans even saying it looks vastly superior.

This year’s EVO runs from July 14th to the 16th – perhaps Arika will give a full unveiling of the game at that point? We’ll keep you guys posted.
