Stardock has released a playable beta for Star Control: Origins.

The new beta is the first available to the public, via users who pre-order the game over on their official website.

Featured above, you can view a meaty trailer that gives a nice overview of what to expect in the beta.

The beta gives a first look at interstellar fleet battles in the upcoming action-adventure game. Players will be able to assemble various ships into a fleet and directly engage battle with enemy fleets.

There’s also a Ship Crafting system in the game, as well as in the beta.

Players will naturally be able to build their own ships piece by piece for use in Fleet Battles. You’ll also be able to share and download ships online with other players.

Star Control: Origins is primed for a full release sometime next summer.
