Universal Pictures has shared the first trailer for the hotly-anticipated Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 movie, a direct sequel to 2023’s excellent original film adaptation.
Co-produced by series creator Scott Cawthon and Blumhouse Productions, the new horror film sequel is set a year after the events of the original film and sees returning co-stars Josh Hutcherson as the former security guard Mike and Elizabeth Lail as the police officer Vanessa, as well as Theodus Crane as Jeremiah and Matthew Lillard as William Afton.
Emma Tammi is returning to direct and Cawthon has returned to write the sequel as well. New castings include Skeet Ulrich, who is reuniting with Lillard after the breakout horror hit Scream, as well as Freddy Carter (Shadow and Bone, Pennyworth), Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park, Seinfeld), Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters franchise, Annabelle Comes Home).
Here’s the official synopsis on the new film, plus the first trailer:
One year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town’s first ever Fazfest. Former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), concerning the fate of her animatronic friends. But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.
As mentioned, the new film is co-produced by Blumhouse Productions and Scott Cawthon Productions, with Emma Tammi, Beatriz Sequeira, Christopher Warner, Russell Binder and Marc Mostman executive producing.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is set to premiere exclusively in theaters this winter, on December 5th.
