Fishing horror game DREDGE is getting a movie

Dredge

A movie adaptation of the fishing horror game DREDGE has been announced.

Black Salt Games has reportedly partnered with the film producer Story Kitchen in order to create a movie based on the indie horror game.

Story Kitchen is a relatively knew production company, helmed by Dmitri M. Johnson who was a producer on the Sonic the Hedgehog movie which became a surprise hit with fans.

The company is also reportedly working on many more adaptations of video games, including a Toejam & Earl animation, as well as a Tomb Raider animated series set for later this year.

With their experience adapting video games, the company is uniquely positioned to bring the eldritch horror of DREDGE to the big screen, with the Story Kitchen saying: “Think The Sixth Sense on the water. A grounded atmospheric cosmic horror blend of HP Lovecraft and Ernest Hemingway.”

In DREDGE, players take on the role of a fishing captain who begins a side business trawling for ancient artifacts on the ocean floor. Who wants these artifacts and for what comes secondary to the captain’s spirit of adventure, but perhaps they should be careful what they meddle with.

Players will sail and explore across open water, catching fish, finding artifacts and lost lore, and coming face to face with horrors from the deep as they find themselves deeper and deeper into an eldritch mystery.

Game Features:

  • Unravel a Mystery: Captain your fishing trawler across a collection of remote islands, each with its own inhabitants to meet, wildlife to discover, and stories to unearth.
  • Dredge the Depths: Scour the sea for hidden treasures and complete quests to gain access to strange new abilities
  • Study Your Craft: Research special equipment and upgrade your boat’s capabilities to gain access to rare fish and valuable deep-sea curios.
  • Fish to Survive: Sell your discoveries to the locals to learn more about each area, and upgrade your boat to reach even more secluded locations.
  • Fight the Unfathomable: Strengthen your mind and use your abilities to survive trips out on the water after dark.

DREDGE has been available since March 2023 across Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
