We have seen a very brief and shadowy glimpse of the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

The clip also confirms the film’s release date- November 8th, 2019.
Attentive viewers are already pointing out a few things from even this snippet. Such as Sonic seemingly not having his white gloves, and the iconic ring collecting sound being a little off. Others are showing signs of being excited and cautious in equal bounds- with the constant reminder of how poorly movie adaptions of video games usually go.
The $7 million film is co-produced by Paramount Pictures and Sega of America. Filming started mid-September in Ladysmith, British Columbia.
Neal H. Moritz (Fast and Furious series), Tim Miller (director of Deadpool, upcoming Terminator 6 and owner of Blur Studio), and Jeff Fowler (Blur Studio, Academy Award nominee for 2005 Best Animated Short Film “Gopher Broke”) are on board as Producer, Executive Producer and Director respectively. This will also be Fowler’s first directing role.
The cast includes Ben Schwartz (DuckTales) as Sonic, James Marsden (Hairspray, Westworld, X-Men) as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter (Southside with You) as his wife, and Jim Carrey (Ace Verntura series, The Mask, The Truman Show) as Dr. Robotnik.
Other actors and actresses include Lee Majdoub (Agent Stone), Frank C. Turner (Crazy Carl); along with Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Neal McDonough, Debs Howard and Elfina Luk in undisclosed roles.
There are few consistencies among sources about the plot- combined with unsourced claims. What we do know via Collider is “Marsden will play a small-town cop from South Dakota who ends up going on a road trip to San Francisco with Sonic the Hedgehog as they race against the evil Dr. Robotnik (Carrey) to recover Sonic’s rings.”
Speaking to Deadline, Paramount Picture’s Chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos describes the film as “[Sonic’s] a juvenile delinquent on the adventures in a pretty straight rural environment with a local policeman. It was instantly engaging and it was good enough where you could see where it’s going.”
