Warner Bros. released 20 minutes of the upcoming anime film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim to a large crowd at the Annecy Animation Festival.
The film is the latest project from Japanese director Kenji Kamiyama who is largely known for directing Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. According to Variety, Kamiyama was inspired by the books, as well as Peter Jackson’s films.
Jason DeMarco from Warner Bros. clarified that they’ve set out to produce a Kamiyama film, not just an animated Peter Jackson style movie.
The anime movie will take place 200 years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is expected to premiere on December 11 internationally, with a North America release on December 13.
