We’ve gotten the first live gameplay for Guerrilla Games’ PlayStation 4-exclusive, Horizon: Zero Dawn.
The footage comes from this year’s Tokyo Game Show, where the publisher livestreamed the game being played in real-time. Featured above, you can view a recording (via Dualshockers) of this footage – apologies for the quality as it’s a recording of a NicoNico livestream.
The game puts the player into the role of a female hunter named Aloy, with the above footage showing her taking down Grazers in order to get resources for her tribe to survive. Guerrilla is putting an emphasis on this experience being a single-player one, and that it’s definitely an open-world RPG.
Horizon: Zero Dawn is launching sometime in 2016 exclusively for PlayStation 4.

September 27, 2015 at 10:50 amLooks very pretty and the gameplay flows well. My guess is that this will be a holiday title.

September 27, 2015 at 11:13 amlooks absolutely uninteresting. Another bland, forgettable open world game. Oh, but this one is by Guerrilla Games, who have no previous experience with open world design, surely this won’t turn out boring and forgettable like every other open world game in the past 5 years.

September 27, 2015 at 11:14 amDat tall grass to tall grass stealth. I hope this doesn’t mean it’s super simplified and you can’t stealth where there is no tall grass, like some sort of reverse pokemon gameplay.

September 27, 2015 at 11:46 amLooks good hoping that the game has that japanese voice option even though it’s western title :)

September 27, 2015 at 1:42 pmReminder than “warrior amazon women”, as if the human species biologically worked -anything- like the lion species, is utter nonsense.
Exceptions to the rule do exist in human history, and they are noted because they are EXCEPTIONS. As a whole, the idea is moronic unless the woman is built like a man.
This is why Dragon’s Crown is more realistically and anatomically accurate than games like this.

September 27, 2015 at 1:48 pmYour pessimism is insulting but not unwarranted. I only liked the Witcher: Wild 3 Hunt because of the story (and Triss). Aside from that title I can’t remember the last “open world” game I genuinely liked, and even then WW3H wasn’t a true open world title since at some point you needed to go to an overworld and select a destination to go there.
I guess GTAV was the last “open world” which was fun but the novelty wears out real quick. Skyrim COULD have been great but I’m a console guy, don’t have a PC to run the thousand mods needed to make the game reach its potential, so that didn’t work for me either.
tl;dr “Open world” has become cancer and no one expects anything from it but rather hopes it’s just not bad.

September 27, 2015 at 2:10 pmWhats the point? Neither seem to have a particular focus in realism anyways.

September 27, 2015 at 2:22 pmPeople seem to not notice the fucking mechanical dinosaurs that are populating the world.

September 27, 2015 at 3:02 pmI fully agree, but you’re saying that as if their decade of making first person shooters did ever count for something.

September 27, 2015 at 3:51 pmOne of them at least attempts and does achieve logic amidst the fantasy. The other is embarrassing and impossible even within its own story (unless she has magical super-bones beneath that average frame, because a secret six-pack of abs doesn’t equate to even half the strength of a warrior man).
The level of suspension of disbelief is less strained when the woman wielding a giant battle ax and kicking dragons in the face has a body anatomically suited/muscular enough to make it logical.
tl;dr Buff women doing buff things, even if those things involve dragons and heavy weapons, makes more sense then average girls playing Amazonians

September 27, 2015 at 3:56 pmBecause some of us, at least those like me, want to forget that during a massive presentation they actually showcased a game where a waif just hopped back up A-OK after being chomp-stomped by MechaGodzilla

September 27, 2015 at 5:22 pmIt looks gorgeous, but I just know the mechanics will have the complexity of a kiddie pool, and the world will be flatter than a pancake.

September 27, 2015 at 6:30 pmNot really interested in this game.

September 27, 2015 at 9:26 pm“See that mountain? You can go there.”
Not falling for that again.
Except I will.

September 27, 2015 at 10:02 pmA character is only in a game because the dev wanted them in. They’re both fantasy games so who cares because it isn’t the strangest thing in a game about robotic dinosaurs.

September 28, 2015 at 12:45 amJust because something exists in fantasy that doesn’t meant it exists in a vacuum separate from the laws of anatomy and biology, unless those laws are subverted in some fantastical way.
As I’ve seen it, they aren’t, which makes this girl taking anything on in combat ridiculous, especially cyborg/robot dinos.
I get that it doesn’t bother you, but that’s how fiction is written. Example: Resident Evil 5 had zombies, monsters, and super viruses, and yet the dumbest moments of that game were when a regular human being (no matter how buff) punched a huge boulder into a volcano and seeing UberWesker somehow surviving behind IN LAVA. Nevermind that he’d be a ball of flame anywhere near lava but it’s just….come on.

September 28, 2015 at 1:24 amIf they made it realistic this would be a really short game.

September 28, 2015 at 1:43 amI understand you’re problem with it but I just don’t see it breaking my suspension of belief considering what we know about the game(not much). Maybe its just me being apathetic though because thinking back I didn’t mind the boulder scene in RE5.

September 28, 2015 at 10:29 amTrust me. Even with modded Skyrim all it’ll achieve to be is a spray painted gold turd. You can’t fix the shitty game play because it’s hard coded into the engine.

September 28, 2015 at 4:23 pmI’ll take your word for it, then. Like I said, I don’t have a computer for gaming so I can’t find out myself. I’ve heard that the mods for Bethesda games can really spruce them up to something amazing but I get than modding isn’t magic.

September 28, 2015 at 4:40 pmJust joking. Not trying start a waifu war

September 28, 2015 at 5:31 pmIt can spruce it up sure but it’s mechanically fucked in a way mods can’t fix. I spent more time modding than actually playing, that’s how bad it is.

September 28, 2015 at 5:53 pmHaha I figured as much. No worries.
Triss isn’t my waifu anyway. Like most people my waifu is Vesimir. He’s the most kawaii desu ne
