Bethesda has shared new information, as well as the debut gameplay for their upcoming sequel, Fallout 4.

We’ve learned the game starts just prior to the infamous nuclear holocaust that has plagued the entire franchise. The game is set in Boston, as many have speculated.

The character editor has been upgraded, instead of using sliders, you can actually sculpt your character’s face. Depending on what kind of couple you create (as you get to pick the man or woman in the beginning), your baby will be procedurally generated from their chosen traits.

Following your character being picked and created, the protagonists run from their home and escape to Vault 111. Somehow, you wake up 200 years later, as the sole survivor of the vault. Details are scarce, but it seems like the majority of your story will be discovering what happened with the vault, and the nuclear holocaust.

You’ll be able to get a dog yet again, only now you can give commands – simply by pointing at something, making the dog go and try looking at whatever you’re pointing at, contextually. The V.A.T.S. system is returning, and was shown in the gameplay trailer. Fallout 4 is running on a next-generation version of their creation engine, which provides for a better visual experience.

The Pip-Boy has been upgraded as well, where the developers have put lots of emphasis in making the entire UI look and feel alive and fun. The armor system has been updated into a layered armor system, holo-tapes that you can listen to, and some that you can even play.

A reconstruction element has been added into the game. From here, you’ll be able to build new houses, devices, and more. You can rip things apart and gather resources to literally rebuild the now-devastated Boston. You can build a new home for yourself, and maybe even friends you meet along the way.

As you build out your settlement, traders and villagers will come in and inhabit your town. You can even go further and provide your town with electricity, turrets, lights, and more. Eventually, you can even run Brahmin caravans in between your settlements, if you choose to go that far in rebuilding the world.

The crafting is also implemented in the equipment in the game. An example was given with a scope for a weapon – you can build that item, or weapon. So far, there are 50 base weapons, and over 700 possible modifications for those weapons. You can even modify your own suit of Power Armor.

A collector’s edition was announced – the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition. Featured above, the new edition comes with a physical Pip-Boy that you can put your cell-phone into. The device will come with a companion app that works with the game, and it provides a second screen experience.

Lastly, Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 4 will be launching across PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One on November 10th of this year.
