I suppose it’s too much to ask for a FE character from one of the good FE games.

    Well, I guess there’s Ike.

Marth and Roy’s respective games are good.

    Not the best, but good.

When looking at just the Smash roster, someone who doesn’t know any better would probably assume that Fire Emblem is Nintendo’s biggest series… why else would it have as many characters as Mario, after all?

While I’m not personally interested the sheer amount of anger this is causing people for some reason is absolutely hilarious.

And considering who got revealed afterwards, I’m half convinced this was just to appease the Japanese market since it was stated that the ballot character was “#1 in Europe and in the top five in US” but nothing about Japan.

Actually there isn’t really a bad Fire Emblem game. Except Genealogy of the Holy War, but only because it hasn’t aged well with the mechanics. The story is fantastic.

I really think Fire Emblem Gaiden is my favorite Fire Emblem. That seems crazy, but maybe it was low expectations from such an old game and having an absolutely blast with it.

For a bad one, yeah I can see that…. It was probably the only FE game I stopped played for a long time before going back and finishing it. I also think it’s a victim of it’s age and not implementing some of the improvements the series had seen over the years.

I’m almost positive those two specifically are more popular here than in Japan. Because they were our firsts.

So for marketing reasons, that’s highly unlikely. I would’ve loved to see them instead of Robin, Corrin, or hell, even Roy. But y’know, public appeal.

The direct also confirmed NoA’s translation for the game is terrible. Seriously, where do you “Corrin” (which isn’t even a name) from “カムイ” (which is a name)?

Literally translating using お兄ちゃん as a form of address is unnatural in English and VERY amateur sounding.

“Big brother” is effective at selling the character as a younger or more childish one though. I think that us alright buy her saying “That’s my Big Brother” was too much.

I think every name change in If was a bad one. If it isn’t making the name simple for the sake of it, it is just an arbitrary change when the two countries are sound already.

Aqua vs Azure? I’m fine with either both are on the nose but whatever.

Presumably because the Fire Emblem Fates marketing hasn’t really begun yet even if you can preorder a limited edition.

Most people who know about the character use the Japanese name methinks. It’ll shift around soon.

The only truly bad mechanic in 4 is lack of actual item trading. A good chunk of mechanics in 4 carried over to other games.

They released Roy in Melee to promote sales of his game, before it was out in Japan. Did the same with Lucas too.

Maybe they’re doing the same here.
FE Fates is 3 games overall, so they would do well to advertise it with their main character in smash.
