I think that if any more games are released that feature cute pixelated children dying horribly, it will soon constitute its very own genre. I’d go for “adorable mutilation.” We’re already dumb enough to have a genre called survival horror, even though just calling them horror games works just as well, and conveys the same idea, so adorable mutilation fits right in there.
Finding Teddy is the latest in adorable mutilation games. It’s a point and click game where you play as a little girl, whose titular teddy has been stolen by a closet monster of some sort, so she goes on a quest in a magical land, where nearly every living thing she will encounter shall do its best to eat, crush, or impale her.
You can support the game on Steam Greenlight, where you can find demos for not only Windows, but also Linux, in both the 32 and 64 bit flavors. Apparently, a Mac version is forthcoming. The demo is short, but I had some fun with it.
You can collect some artwork that has a cool Shel Silverstein vibe to it, so that’s neat. If the trailer is any indication, you’ll also get some companions to follow you around. The whole thing reminds me a bit of Loom. Check it out.
