Back in January, we introduced you to an ambitious mod for System Shock 2 that overhauled nearly the entire game and added a completely new and non-linear storyline to the already narrative-heavy RPG hybrid. Though it was only a beta at the time, the developers promised to get the final version out soon after.
Well, that waiting has ended, since the official final version of the mod has been posted to ModDB. You can even browse the audio logs if you only care about the newly crafted story.
- System Shock Infinite 2.0 has been released!
- We are pleased to announce that the beta phase is now over and the mod can be played in full. The team wishes to thank all who contributed to the project with their tests and reports!
- System Shock Infinite is a story mod which extends the original finale with a quest to restore the amnesiac protagonist’s identity, through hundreds of new events in the main campaign. Since version 2.0, the quest continues into all-new Cyberspace levels and features a plotline with multiple endings. Enjoy our extended trailer for a complete preview of the mod!
Infinite is more than just a way to make it fall in line with the naming conventions of its spinoff Bioshock; it actually borrows the idea of multiple realities and tears in the fabric of space time in much the same way Bioshock Infinite did, only with the more open-ended gameplay of System Shock 2. So if anything, those who feel bad about the fate of Janice Polito (Can you spoil a 16 year old game?) will now be able to see her before she is violated by Shodan.
