Final Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Box Art Drops Hideo Kojima/Productions’ Name

metal gear solid v the phantom pain 07-14-15-3

It seems like the writing truly is on the wall, in the case of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and the fate of both Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions.

The final box art for the game was revealed by publisher Konami, and it’s missing something kind of important. You can compare the final to the original (left to right, respectively), below:

Hideo Kojima and the Kojima Productions’ logo has been removed from the box, the same as their removal from Konami’s various official websites.

This is the latest in a string of troubling signs leading towards the eventual departure of Hideo Kojima and his team, with our previous report claiming that Kojima Productions has already disbanded.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is launching worldwide on September 1st, across Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

I’m starting to wonder if Revengance’s success had a part in Kojima’s removal.

Well Revengence was less Kojima and more Platinum Games. If anything, I heard it sold quite well.

Because Konami is refusing to give credit to the team that actually made it. It’s like buying a painting with the artist’s signature crossed out. It’s not only dishonest, but immoral, immature, and frankly, I find it disgusting.

EDIT: I hope at the very least they kept the credits.

Obviously won’t happen, but it would be great to see the community protest this by boycotting the game.

He must have really rustled them good if they’re trying to remove any existence he had with the project. Especially so when they are doing it for prior works as well.

I honestly don’t think I’m going to be buying this. Fucking Konami doesn’t deserve my money. Maybe I’ll wait to buy it used down the line, then just send Kojima $60 in the mail.

I think Death Saved meant it more in the sense that Revengeance was indeed a good game. But it was made by Platinum after being stuck in development hell at Kojima Productions, which is the important point.

From what previews have told us, Rising was not very good before it was handed over to Platinum, who IMO are the masters of action games. In fact, I’ve heard (via the Crate & Crowbar podcast) the first level of the game is a good approximation of what the original version of Rising was like, but for the whole game.

For anyone planning to boycott, buy it used. No cash to Konami but you still get to play it (im sure Kojima wants us to play it)

its the principal of the matter. If somebody works hard on something, their name should be present. Its like the Marvel movies featuring Jack Kirbys creation and they didnt include his name. Irks me greatly. This and Konamis recent Boners keeps me from giving them money

I’m not some kind of major MGS or Kojima fan but I have been playing through the MGS series a bit lately. They’re good stuff. Kojima deserves the respect he’s had for years and years.

If Konami doesn’t want to respect him then I don’t want to give them any money.

I hope Kojima starts his own studio or at least join a good developer such as Platinum Games, Miyazaki’s From Software team, or first party Nintendo or Sony. He and the rest of Kojima Productions are way too talented.

I wouldn’t go so far as to boycot this game. Rather, boycot the next one. That will almost certainly send a much clearer message to Konami that they’ve made a mistake. It will be much harder for Konami to explain away the significant drop in sales to investors. Boycoting this game allows them to justify the removal of Koji Pro as preemptive damage control while simultaneously promising that the next game will have a much lower development cost. You’d be doing them a huge favor.

This state of affairs gets sadder with each day. Why so petty, Konami? You already fired the guy, erased his name from posters and the website, and dissolved Kojima Productions. Could at least keep his name on the cover.

I really want to play this game, but I really don’t want to give Konami any money given how disrespectful they’re being towards Kojima and his team. Shit like that doesn’t deserve my support.

They are still going to be in the credits, also i doubt anyone doesn’t know that this is Kojima’s game nothing they will ever do will change that fact.

As for it being immoral and dishonest i disagree, but definitely immature.

This is absolutely disgusting. This is a dick move of massive proportions.

I’m glad this is the last MGS. Even if they make more after this I won’t buy them, since Kojipro won’t be involved.
And trust me. Konami will make more.

It’s a pretty childish move on Konami’s part, and even more so in the context that they erased KojiPro’s (and Kojima’s name’s) trace from the box art of their last game, but will it affect my plan of day 1 purchase? Not at all, I’ll still get the game right on the first day. Partly because it’s too much of a hassle to play hide-and-seek with Konami when they get money after the game either way, and partly because… it’s TPP. Not much of a reasoning I know, but it’s been a long while since I’ve been looking forward to a game in a while, and -meaning this without any trace of offense- no martyr card is going to prevent me from getting the game. Yeah, Konami gets money after my purchase, but I want to keep KojiPro’s work in respect enough to reward them with my day 1 purchase and trust, regardless of what shitty things Konami is doing lately. Call it being a sell-out, call it being spineless, but as I said, playing hide-and-seek under the name of boycott is pretty much pointless from where I sit, and I won’t going to delay a possibly good experience because of it. Obviously I’m not going to blame anyone who goes with the boycott option, I just dropped my two cents into the topic.
