Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is expected to release with Early Access on June 28 with an official release on July 2.
Pre-orders for Dawntrail are expected to open next week on March 26. The game will include in-game rewards for pre-ordering, as well as buying the Collector’s Edition of the game.
Players who pre-order the game will receive a Wind-Up Zidane minion, as well as Azeyma’s Earrings, referencing the goddess of the sun in the setting’s pantheon of The Twelve.
The pre-order bonuses seem like they contain references for the upcoming plot of Dawntrail, at PAX East, game director Naoki Yoshida hinted that the references to Final Fantasy 9 are there for a “secret” reason.
Meanwhile, although it’s confirmed Dawntrail is taking place in the game’s “New World” continent, Azeyma is largely worshipped in the southern continent of Meracydia, implying there might be some connection. However that’s just our speculation.
Players who get the Collector’s Edition of the game will receive even more bonus goodies, including a Wind-Up Garnet minion, an Ark mount in its robot form which is Garnet’s most powerful summon in the Final Fantasy 9, and a Chocobo Brush for the new Pictomancer job. The two additional FF9 items make the references too much to ignore as mere fanservice and it’s safe to assume that Dawntrail will make large references to FF9.
FFXIV has never been shy about alluding to older Final Fantasy games. For example, the latest patches for Endwalker borrowed heavily from Final Fantasy IV, with players facing off against bosses inspired by the Four Fiends, monsters in service to Golbez.
