Since having been revealed a few weeks ago, Capcom’s online-only sequel/spin-off to their last generation console hit Dragon’s Dogma has generated a considerable amount of interest. Though some have dismissed it due to the free-to-play model it will adopt, it would seem Capcom is taking the development rather seriously. At least, seriously enough to hire Kazushige Nojima to pen the upcoming RPG’s story.
Nojima worked for Square up until 2003, when he left to form his own company, Stellavista. While with Square, he wrote the script for several of their key titles, most notably Final Fantasy VII and the Kingdom Hearts series. He even showed off his musical side by penning the “Hymn of the Fayth” for Final Fantasy X, another game whose script he wrote.
As is the case with recently announced games, there’s little known of the title’s plot. What we do know is that Nojima is working closely with Capcom’s original development team to craft a story worthy of being the pillar to what Capcom no doubt hopes is the East’s equivalent of the West’s own Elder Scrolls series. Hopefully, their open world RPG’s online spin-off fares better than Bethesda’s did.
Dragon’s Dogma Online is due out some time this year in Japan for the Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and Windows PCs.
