Final Fantasy VII Remake update covers up Tifa’s cleavage, breaks vital PC mod

Final Fantasy VII Remake

Ahead of the launch of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, its predecessor Final Fantasy VII Remake got a surprise update. The new update didn’t change much but fans quickly noticed it censored Tifa’s cleavage in a cutscene.

The new update is the first in months and only mentions fixing “several bugs,” though fans discovered Tifa’s cowgirl outfit in the Nibelheim flashback was altered with a black shirt under her white top, covering up her cleavage. Here’s a look:

Whether this is considered censorship or alteration to make her outfit more closely resemble her design in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is another discussion, however, the update also broke the important FFVIIHook mod on PC (via wccftech).

This mod unlocks the dev console, giving access to console commands for the RPG, as well as easy changes to the games CVars. This also let modders fix big issues with the PC release like visual stuttering. As of the new update, the mod is now unusable.

Final Fantasy VII Remake has been available on PS4, PS5, and PC. Read our review for the remake here and Intergrade here, and our port report on the PC version here.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is set to launch on February 29th for PS5.
