Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will use “modified” script for its remaster

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles

Square Enix recently announced Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, an upgraded remaster of the original Final Fantasy Tactics game.

Fans immediately wondered what localization script the new release would use, considering the game’s previous release and re-translation as Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions.

Thankfully, the original writer and director behind Final Fantasy Tactics, Yasumi Matsuno, clarified what scripts the new release will use.

While the classic version of the game, which is included in the upgraded remaster, will use the original game’s script for Japan – the English script will use the War of the Lions script as is.

Conversely, the new version of the game coming with its remaster will use a “new version” that Matsuno describes as “modified for remastering”, which the new version’s English script will use as a base as well. So for those who want to see the original script, the classic version is the way to go.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is set to launch for Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on September 30th of this year, worldwide.
