Square Enix Asia are reportedly producing a physical version of Final Fantasy IX on Nintendo Switch.
The news comes via Reset Era and Twitter, citing an allegedly deleted post on Square Enix Asia‘s Facebook page. The physical edition will launch (in Asian regions) this Winter, and supports English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish. Final Fantasy IX originally launched on PlayStation in 2000, but later came digitally to Windows PC (via Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, and iOS.
After an attempt to kidnap Princess Garnet of Alexandria turns out to be exactly what she wanted, Zidane ends up on a journey to stop Queen Brahne, the invasion of Burmecia, and an army of Black Mages.
Players learn new abilities by using equipment, eventually mastering them to be used freely. Players can also create items via Synthesis, and enter powerful Trance forms in battle when they take damage.
Modern ports also include improved character models, autosave, and “game boosters” such as high speed and no encounter modes.
