The game’s first chapter and most of the second chapter will be entirely free to play, while the rest of the game can be unlocked via an in game menu, or entirely through the eShop.

Europeans are getting Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water on October 30th, alongside a limited retail edition for the game.

Damned shame it’s digital only, especially when Europe is getting such a nice special edition.

Yeah I hate that it’s digital only but boycotting it would only hinder future releases unfortunately.

Definitely getting it. I’d hate to see this series die. It’s my favourite horror series.

Digital Only is a no sale for me. I’ve got a data cap and the Wii U’s HDD is pathetically small. After this gen, I’m done with NoA. They’ve done nothing but shit on their costumers this gen.

Meanwhile NoE continues to show NoA how it’s done.

I could get it only if nothing gets censored/removed. Not even a single costume. NOT ONE.

eShop only, huh? Really not liking that, particularly because EU gets an uber LE physical edition. There’s also the threat that Koei Tecmo may release an updated version later down the road.

Not paying $50 for digital version. As much as I want to play it, that purchase is as much a yes vote to digital bs as the game itself.

Completely agree. NOA needs better market research. A game like this appeals to the more hardcore crowd which tends to be more adamantly physical and anti-digital. AND we are willing tobpay a premium to get it if it’s done right. All this is doing is pissing off the honeypot more.

I was hoping for a nice limited edition, but I’ll take this. I’m not happy about the price though.

It’s even more ridiculous considering how they know if you actually advertise a game; it will sell.

Dragon Quest IX? Got advertised and it became the best selling game in the series for the west.

Splatoon? One of the first new nintendo IPs that actually sold really well. It was also one of the only one to get actual decent advertisement and coverage.

Well, more incentive to take my Japanese classes seriously. I’m kind of tired of NoA, I’ll just start buying the Japanese versions and systems. I don’t like the idea of paying full price for digital and I don’t trust localization companies very much.

guess what that edition was so limited in supply it sold out within two days of being put up on nintendos official store.

The download is 18gb and takes 24gb to install “tip from an anon source”… FFS

Yup, this isn’t hard science here. Then again, this is the same company leaving money on the table by under printing amiibos, among other strange decisions.

I’d love to learn the language for games that never get localized at all, but it’s so daunting.

  18. blackice85
    August 24, 2015 at 12:47 pm

That’s actually the best reason for me to hold off on getting it even though I want to play it, I don’t like how they tend to do that ‘plus’ edition stuff a year later.

  19. blackice85
    August 24, 2015 at 12:49 pm

I wish they’d consider doing limited print runs, like preorder based, if they really think it’s too risky. Let everyone get a chance to get a physical copy if they want, they can even set a minimum number required so it’s profitable enough.

That really sucks, I often don’t understand NoA. Glad I will hopefully be able to get that limited edition, havn’t spotted it for preorder yet.

I dont really care for first or second-party Nintendo titles and seeing as their third-party pull is pretty weak Im pretty sure this is the only Wii U title I have ever cared to want to play, but KT have really shafted their Western audience with this. I dont know how they do these things and then not localise future titles due to tepid sales and wonder why people say their support sucks.

get a Hard Drive with more Memory ? still got 843 GB Free here

  23. JustaGuest

Bigger hard drive doesn’t remedy data caps and my desire to feel like I actually own my game.

I needed foreign language credits for my degree so I just lucked out that they had classes. Normally I’d think it was daunting but you really get motivated when your gpa is on the line.

    August 24, 2015 at 2:00 pm

Oh I don’t doubt that, it’s just hard for me not being in school anymore. Plus there wouldn’t be anyone around here to speak with, so that wouldn’t make things any easier. I’m still looking to at least learn some basics though.

Petition to release a physical copy 4 weeks after to not force a game delay? This game will die in north america if it doesn’t get a physical release.

  29. Misogynerd
    August 24, 2015 at 2:28 pm

Yeah, it can sell, but they have to give a shit out of it. Seems like NoA insists their games have to make X arbitrary amount of profit. Instead they should be focusing on marketing the game so it just sells good. Still salty about the Cing sequels being fucked over in America because it’s too weird for NoA or doesn’t give them X amount of money.

So let me understand this… Europe gets a fantastic limited edition of which I’d buy 3 of just because, and we get Digital Only? Not even just a box? What the fuck is wrong with you guys! I’d buy the European version if it WOULD RUN ON MY SYSTEM!!! Nooo, they have to region lock our stuff. When I move out and I lose access to the WiiU where I live, it’s a PS4 for me and no more Nintendo crap.

  34. Tubsiwub
    August 24, 2015 at 6:08 pm

At this point, it’s like we didn’t get the game anyway. Screw them.

24 GB installation on a system that has either 8 GB or 32 GB *sigh* I’m not buying a hard drive for one game just because these cheap fucks couldn’t be bothered to make a physical copy or include a reasonable sized drive with their console.

  36. blackice85
    August 24, 2015 at 6:12 pm

I think that’s a bit of an exaggeration (a lot actually). I don’t like digital only releases either, but I know that if I don’t buy this I’m only contributing to the problem.

It’s fine if you don’t want to, but don’t act surprised if the next game isn’t localized at all.

Can’t help you with the data cap but regarding the hdd get a nice 500gb hard drive with a split Y wire and it does the job perfectly. Xbox one allows the same with usb3. Only the ps4 needs manually changing.

The saddest thing is Fatal Frame is a wonderful series. It really deserves physical releases. The visuals, gameplay, and atmosphere in FF are always top notch and there was a time it was up there in popularity with Silent Hill & Resident Evil.

NOA is just “lazy” as with proper advertisement and the promise of a physical copy I’m confident it would sell truck tons! (Especially if physical copies were released around Halloween when gamers would really appreciate a good horror game.)

To the North American fans who are not happy with this situation, you need to make sure to tell Nintendo of America.

You can go to http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/ask and choose Corporate -> Corporate Social Responsibility, and let them know what you think about this situation.

So disappointed it’s digital only. I never pre-order or buy full price, and I was going to pay extra for the limited edition day one. I can’t even import it because of Nintendo’s idiotic region lock. I was going to buy a Wii U for this game, now I’ll wait for a big sale on the system and the game. Not paying anywhere near 50 bucks for a digital only release. Especially when Nintendo still hasn’t figured out how to make a proper account system.

It still has stock at Game who are also stocking it, so it isn’t nearly as rare as Bayonetta 2’s First Print (which disappeared everywhere in both places in hours).

  45. AniMitch
    August 26, 2015 at 11:09 am

Oh god i love you, i thought it was a nintendo store exclusive.

  46. British_Otaku
    August 26, 2015 at 11:16 am

Love you too, I only remembered to go and preorder again thanks to your comment. They might be out of stock by late September or some point in October.

I thought it “It can’t be that rare, they didn’t say how many there are” (I more or less stayed up for the Bayonetta 2 thing from announcement to being up on the store).

Just as some general advice, if Nintendo has a limited edition for Game, they probably have it on their Nintendo Store as well and vice versa. “Exclusive” isn’t as “exclusive” as they make things sound.

It’s only on eshop because Ninetendo know their sales are gonna be shit because they letted idiots censor their game in whic the only reason people will buy it for the fan service most people will not buy it if it has no fan service so this is the only thing they could do even if it pisses off the minority like you
