Super Smash Bros. Melee remains a mainstay for ultra hardcore players in the Smash Bros. community for a variety of reasons, and some of those fans love the game so much they’ve been modding the latest game in the series, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, to be just like Melee.
The new project is titled Super Smash Bros. Melee HD, and its now in a playable beta form. The current version includes staple Melee mechanics like crouch cancelling, L-cancelling, wavedashing, and the same physics as the 16 year old game. Featured above, you can view a new trailer showing off the current build.
It’s also worth mentioning the mod reverts all of the characters’ movesets back to the original ones seen in Melee, while new characters not seen in Melee will have new movesets. To get your hands on the mod, you’ll need to join the modding groups Discord channel.
A similar attempt at re-creating Melee happened back with the previous game in the series, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Fans supported the mod until its final 3.6 update.
