Fanmade Mother Sequel Gets a Gameplay Trailer

Having been in the works for at least a couple of years now, the fanmade fourth entry in the Mother series, Mother 4, finally reveals how far along it’s  come in the pursuit to recreate Itoi’s SNES era classic. Not surprisingly, given the devotion seen in this particular community, the fans have managed to finish quite a bit: the music, the combat, the quirky style of the enemies, and dialog all seem to be coming together nicely. The general consensus seems to be that everyone is pleased with it (unless you’re one of the people who disliked Mother 3‘s rhythm-based combat). Watch the trailer and see for yourself.

Mother 4 will be a completely free game. (The developers haven’t even asked for donations.) Combine that with the fact that this is built around a game engine made from scratch, rather than piggy-backing on a pre-existing one, and it’s hard not to be impressed with what the team has been able to accomplish.

You can sign up for the game’s newsletter on their official site if you want to be notified when the game goes live.
