A new fan mod for the original Final Fantasy VII runs in 60FPS, enabling users to finally experience the classic JRPG in super-smooth framerates.
Although the original game has only been available on PC via Steam since 2013, Final Fantasy VII received a lesser known release on PC back in 1998 and has enjoyed an active modding community ever since.
For those who don’t know, while the original Final Fantasy VII runs in 60FPS, this actually quadruples the speed of the original PlayStation version which runs at a native 15FPS. Final Fantasy VII was a hallmark of its time as the first game from the franchise to be put into proper 3D.
In the video below you can find a side by side comparison of the modded and original versions.

The original Final Fantasy VII has since been ported as mentioned above to Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, iOS, and Android.
