Fan marries Kazuma Kiryu in official series 20th anniversary event

Kazuma Kiryu married

Sega celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Yakuza / Like a Dragon series this week in Japan with a “Weddings, Funerals, and Events Exhibition” for fans.

The new exhibition was held in Tokyo and let fans experience the series’ atmosphere, characters, and more – the most notable bit let fans actually marry main characters, even the notably celibate series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu.

While the simulated marriages were officially hosted by Sega, anyone could get dressed up as a bride and marry the several popular main characters from the series – even Daigo Dojima and Tianyou Zhao. A fan posted her photos with Kiryu:

If fans participated in the simulated weddings, they received Yakuza / Like a Dragon-branded cash envelopes just like a real life Japanese wedding, as well as a wedding certificate. They also held simulated divorces, and funerals, too.

The exhibition also had an appearance with Kiryu’s voice actor, Takaya Kuroda, who met with fans and even imitated street fights:

Kuroda also naturally appeared next to his legendary in-game likeness, Kiryu, and also shared celebratory drinks alongside the series’ 20th anniversary.

The latest release in the series, Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, is in development for Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PS5 with a global release set for February 12th, 2025.
