Fallout 5 will share world and stories from Fallout live-action TV series

Fallout 5

Amazon’s Fallout live-action TV series has generally been well-received, though some fans have been upset over the retcons the show has made. Now, it seems future Fallout games will adopt these changes, if a tease from studio director Todd Howard is anything to go by.

The majority of game to film or show adaptations have been considered a separate timeline, from both the original developers’ perspective and from the fans.

Howard teased in an interview that future games, like Fallout 5, will instead adopt changes made to the game’s characters, lore, and world as seen in the Amazon show.

Fallout 5 will be existing in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening,” Howard said to the BBC. “We are taking that into account.”

Howard is the director of Bethesda Game Studios, who have largely developed the series since acquiring the IP from Interplay back in 2007, starting with Fallout 3.

Though the first game came out nearly three decades ago, it wasn’t until after 2008’s Fallout 3 that saw the IP get pitched for a film version, in 2009. The second season for Amazon’s Fallout series just premiered, and will show new episodes weekly.

Some notable retcons to the game’s lore include the much larger Brotherhood of Steel presence, some cities being relocated, and even the entire premise of why the Great War happened were changed entirely for the show.

The latest release in the series, Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition, launched in November for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and for Switch 2 in 2026. Get our review here!
