The game became popular on social media ahead of its release due to its smooth and realistic graphics, as well as its aesthetic that plays into the recent trend of “liminal spaces” and horror.

The Exit 8 is a short walking simulator inspired by Japanese underground passageways, liminal spaces and back rooms.
The game is only available in Japanese and English, but if you understand the above description of the anomaly, you can probably play it all the way through.
Japanese horror games seem to be in the middle of a renaissance due in part to games like Convenience Store and Stigmatized Property.
The Exit 8 is available now on Windows PC (via Steam).
